Prejuvenation – Forever Young?
The world of beauty is changing, moving from treating problems to preservation and prevention. Using known and emerging techniques, cosmetic surgeons can now help us to preserve our radiance and toned look of youth. We always thought – would it not be great if we could delay or prevent the appearance of ageing. This is now possible.
‘Prejuvenation’ is the term, that applies to the use of cosmetic medicine procedures that focus on preventing the signs of ageing, such as the use of fillers, botox treatment and advanced rejuvenating facials.
In the west, prejuvenation is rapidly becoming popular among the young adults, such as people reaching young adulthood around the year 2000. This has been propagated by its popularity among celebrities and visibility on social media.
“A reported 64% of member facial plastic surgeons reported an increase in cosmetic surgery or injectable treatments in the under 30 crowd”, according to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). “They are using these treatments as a preventative measure; facial muscles that cause wrinkles can be trained to move less, thus stopping wrinkles before they start”, according to AAFPRS.
Our face has complexly arranged muscles (face has 26 muscles) so some of these treatments are quite complex. To be safe and for best results, the treatments must be done by or performed under the direct supervision of an accredited, qualified, trained and experienced cosmetic surgeon.
Beware of cheaper options, as your face is your mirror to the world.
