Minimise scarring after surgery

Cosmetic surgery is like an art form and surgeons have years of training to put stitches delicately to reduce any scarring. Even then, there is initially always a fine scar formed which will gradually fade away.

There are things you could do to look after the wound and help the skin to heal well and quickly.

After surgery, ensure that you are eating a healthy and balanced diet.  Take some time off work, rest and sleep well.  Follow the surgeon’s instructions about exercise and do not overdo it.

Avoid smoking and alcohol before and after surgery.  Protect your skin from the sun, as sun exposure can increase pigmentation in the scar. If needed, use a sun protection cream and use a scarf or hat.

Our body has great healing and repairing powers but we can help by looking after ourselves.
