Don’t forget your sunscreen!

With summer at its peak, applying sunscreen should be part of your essential skin care routine. Sun can damage your skin in many ways. In short term it can cause tanning and skin burn, pigmentation and dry skin. In the long term it accelerates skin aging, with the appearance of fine line and wrinkles, making the skin look dull.

Sunlight is made up of ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. UVA causes the superficial skin burn and the UVB penetrates the skin causing long term damage and aging.

So invest in a high factor SPF (sun protection factor), (between 30 – 50) broad spectrum sunscreen lotion made by a reputable company. SPF more than 50 usually does not add any additional benefit. Follow the instructions, as you may need to apply it several time a day, e.g. after a swim or excessive sweating.
